Barry Kuretzky is a senior partner of the firm and has specialized in the area of employment and labour law for 30 years, since his call to the Bar in Ontario in 1978. Barry Kuretzky is a graduate of Queen's University Law School.
His area of practice encompasses all aspects of employment and labour law. He acts for employees as well as for many of Canada's largest companies, representing them at the Labour Board, arbitrations, union negotiations, ADRs and at all court levels.
His work includes wrongful dismissal, unjust dismissal pursuant to the Canada Labour Code, human rights, sexual harassment, general harassment, breach of fiduciary duty, employment contracts, workers' compensation, workplace health and safety, injunctions restraining competition and information distribution, wrongful hiring, negligent misrepresentation in the employment context, providing clients with preventative advice and all other aspects of employment law, labour law and human resource litigation.
He also practices all aspects of labour relations law including certification and decertification of trade unions and in a variety of matters before labour relations boards and tribunals, employment standards and human rights tribunals and before arbitrators and adjudicators.
Professional Activities:
Mr. Kuretzky is the co-author of two leading books on employment law, Mediating Employment Disputes and Human Resources Guide to Workplace Harassment.
He has chaired and spoken at numerous Law Society and Canadian Bar Association Conferences on such topics as constructive dismissal, fiduciary duties and sexual harassment and has written articles in various employment matters.
He has been consistently recognized by Lexpert as a leading practitioner in Employment Law and was recognized by Lexpert in The 2006 Guide to the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada as well as the Guide to the World's Leading Labour and Employment Lawyers.
He has made appearances in Alberta, British Columbia, New Brunswick and Saskatchewan, and is a former editor of the Canadian Cases on Employment Law.
