Monty graduated with an LL.B degree from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1999 and was called to the Ontario Bar in early 2001. Prior to entering law, he obtained an Honours B.A. degree at York University where he majored in Political Science and Law and Society.
Areas of Practice:
Monty's area of practice encompasses all areas of labour and employment law.
Professional Experience:
Monty is actively involved in Employment Standards Act hearings, human rights matters, wrongful dismissal cases, Canada Labour Code hearings, Employment Insurance Act hearings, judicial reviews, Labour Relations Board proceedings, employment contracts (including those for senior executives), employee issues surrounding sale of a business, termination and severance packages, employee handbooks and workplace policies.
Professional Activities:
Monty has written and co-written a number of papers on employment law issues including privacy legislation and compliance, employment standards, employment contracts, independent contractors, e-mail and internet misconduct, and pleading bad faith, mental distress and punitive damages in a wrongful dismissal action. For example, Monty’s paper entitled “Privacy in the Workplace” co-written with Barry Kuretzky was published by Irwin Law in the Law Society of Upper Canada Special Lectures.
Monty is also an active participant in a variety of employment law conferences and seminars, including those designed for lawyers and employers. For example, he is a frequent speaker at employment standards and employee discharge seminars designed for employers and human resource professionals.
